Firefighter complains about lack of support after crash where he ran red light

A Wellington (New Zealand) volunteer firefighter being prosecuted over a crash while running a red light on his way to an emergency claims a lack of support from the Fire Service has been “crushing”.

John Klaphake has been charged with careless driving after a collision with a car in Newtown last year, while heading to a house fire nearby in Berhampore.

He and his officer in charge were on the way to the emergency to help with road block and supplies, when they got to a red light on Constable St. They had their lights and sirens going, he said.
